Honors, achievements and special recognition:

  • ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Third Team
  • HSES department award winner

How I became interested in my area of study/research/discipline:

I was raised a Jayhawk since birth, and playing a sport for the University of Kansas has been a dream of mine since grade school. My love for KU and sports has led me to pursue a career in the sports industry, through sports management or marketing.

An honor, achievement or accomplishment that is most meaningful to me and why:

2008 Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year. This award is most meaningful to me because it reflects my hard work and dedication on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

Someone who has been a role model for me:

Dr. Bob Frederick has been a positive role model for me throughout my studies at KU. He was a man full of integrity, honesty, and care for each of his students.

Someone who has been influential or had a significant impact on my life:

Dr. Scott Ward has been very influential to me. He has impacted my life as an academic advisor as well as friend. Scott is always there for encouragement, advice, and to cheer me up!

Most favorite college-related memory:

The month of March Madness 2008 when our basketball team won the National Championship was probably the best time to be a student at KU!

An important life lesson I have learned:

Before I went to college, my dad told me, "You will learn so much in college, but the majority of it won't even come from any textbook." He was completely right.

If I had a sister just entering college, I would want her to know...

Try hard, have fun, and trust that everything will turn out how it's supposed to!

A favorite quote or saying (and why it is meaningful to me):

"Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference."

In life, there are certain times where you can't control what happens. However, we do have the ability to control our reactions to them. This little saying/passage reminds me to be courageous when approaching a challenge, yet respond with grace and integrity to things that are out of my control.
