A Clear Impact on Students

In recent years, we established an award for a student who has been affected by breast cancer. Here is what one of our winners,  Allison Kohn, had to say:

"I was thankful to receive the generous scholarship from the Center this last October.  Unfortunately, cancer is no stranger to my  family. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer during my freshman year of college. My mom’s  fight gave me a deeper appreciation for the relationship I had with her and with others fighting the disease.

Now cancer-free for almost two years, my mom has not lost her resilience or love of life. Her selflessness and enthusiasm for helping others are inspiring. I hope to be as strong, brave and dedicated to my family as she is.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Award was used to pay for my textbooks as well as my tuition for the spring semester. I am a junior studying journalism and political science, hoping to pursue a career in journalism then go to law school. This award helped relieve a financial burden on my family, allowing me to focus on academic goals rather than my bank statement. I am grateful for the opportunity the Emily Taylor Center gave me, and I will forever be a supporter of those fighting cancer."
