Linda Mullens can certainly be described as dedicated. As David Ambler, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, stated, "...she has dedicated her life to helping students directly and by working to ensure the University works for them." James Kitchen, former Dean of Student Life, added, "I am confident she has demonstrated the commitment and skills necessary that contribute in significant ways to the quality of life at the University of Kansas."
Ms. Mullens reign of service began in 1969 with a position as a student employee in the University's Registrar's Office. Over the years she has climbed the ladder of higher education and held such positions as Supervisor of the Certifications Section in the Registrar's Office, Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Admissions, Records, and Financial Aid, and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. This last position entails handling all personnel and budget operations for the Division of Student Affairs, financial activities for all Student Senate-related activities, and special events for groups like KU on Wheels. As Kenneth Stoner, former Director of Student Housing, said, "I am particularly impressed with a colleague that is always attempting to learn new tasks and master additional areas that gives more insight into their job performance and improves their personal effectiveness. She is always seeking new opportunities. She can always be counted on to be available and to provide timely and valuable advice and assistance to anyone working at the University."
Although Ms. Mullens dedicates endless hours to her profession, she still finds time to contribute as the advisor for the KU Crew Team and for the Center for Community Outreach. Other involvements include being a member of the Soroptomist International Club, working on state and local campaigns, and being a member of the Kansas Women's Bowling Association. Through all of her many efforts and years of dedication, she has been a living example of service to all. As Cheng Khoo, former Director of Systems Development states, "I strongly believe she has contributed much to the success of the Division of Student Affairs and the University of Kansas. She is dedicated, competent, and a true professional."
