After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Art from KU and her Master’s degree in Librarianship from Emporia State University, she assumed a library position at the Art Index at the H. W. Wilson Co. in New York. She then headed to the “other” coast and served as Art History/Classics Librarian at University of California, Berkeley. After six years, she returned "home" and to KU in 1981 and assumed the position as Head of the Murphy Library of Art History.
Susan's skill and excellence has resulted in her earning tenure at KU and continuing to serve as Head of the Murphy Art and Architecture Library. In fact, in 1992, her colleagues selected her to receive the Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Librarianship. Not only is her skill recognized locally, but nationally as well. In addition to writing numerous articles on librarianship, she has served on professional committees and organizations and was recently elected by colleagues to serve as President for ARLIS, the art librarian’s national association.
She is also recognized as a mentor and support to students. She goes out of her way to assist students with difficult projects and to answer questions. She is involved in providing orientations and teaching courses in which she “goes the extra mile” to make sure students have received the information and assistance they need.
